Turning 60

I turned 60 a couple of weeks ago.

I celebrated it in Venice with Terri and the girls. Walking, talking, eating, laughing. Simple stuff, but the kind of things that stay with you—and become nostalgic memories in time.

It was special. Not only because of the city, but also for the fact that we were together.

What struck me more than anything wasn’t the number six-zero. It was how I was feeling.

Solid. Healthy. Clear-headed. Grounded and engaged.

Although I normally wake up feeling a strong sense of purpose, I don’t always feel energized. But it’s nothing good Italian coffee can’t remedy. I train well, eat well–and I move well. I enjoy my days.

These are things I am becoming more and more conscious about not taking for granted.

I’m very aware that reaching 60 in my kind of condition is a privilege. It didn’t happen by accident, but it also isn’t guaranteed, no matter what you do.

That awareness brings a certain calm. And a ton of gratitude.

As you might know from my work, I’m not chasing anything extreme—hence the name: Sensible Fitness Program.

I’m not trying to prove anything.

I’m simply continuing—building, refining, enjoying.

Trying to live well, in a way that makes sense.

At the same time I’m living my life, I am fully aware—and this really disturbs me when I think about it—that our world isn’t perfect.

There’s a lot going on that reminds you of that. News coverage means it’s so much “in our faces” each day that it’s hard to know whether good is really able to stand up to evil.

I know that in the middle of all this, there is still a lot that is great. And positive. And worth appreciating. I guess we need to remind ourselves daily of that—even if we're often mindful of all the ills.

So in an overall sense, if it’s my HR work or my fitness and lifestyle coaching, right now, I feel like I’m in a very good place.

And if my passion to support and help others get even a little closer to their ideals—then that’s an excellent use of my time.

To your health, wellness and prosperity!
