Can you afford to ignore
the many benefits of exercise?

A FACT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY

Without a shadow of a doubt, physical exercise promotes health and physical fitness. The benefits of exercise promise a whole host of advantages. Read on and see what this means for you and why you cannot afford to ignore it.

Health Related Fitness, Benefits of exercise

SO, WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF WORKING OUT?

While certain physical activities increase your Flexibility, others build Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance and/or Cardiovascular Fitness. These characteristics, along with a favourable Body Composition encompass the 5 Health Related Fitness Components, which are associated with "good health."

Apart from the traditional Components of Health Related Fitness, the term can be further broken down into skill components or "Skill Related Fitness." These are however important technical considerations in performing certain sports. Skill Related Fitness therefore is not central to the theme of this Site.

In an overall sense, physical exercise helps build healthier bones, muscles, joints and soft tissue, while reducing the risk of chronic disease and illness. And to think that millions of people suffer from ailments that can be prevented or improved through a regular physical exercise program.

This site contains dedicated pages on my own particular Fitness Program, an overview of Workout Routines, Resistance Training, Aerobic Exercise, Cardiovascular Workouts and how to gain muscle mass. Those topics address the 'Training Effect' in much more detail. On this particular page though, we'll stick with the benefits of working out.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER BENEFITS?

Absolutely. Exercise is more than just a body workout, it even helps us psychologically and emotionally. The benefits of exercise also extend to our non-physical side, even though the Health Related Fitness Components are addressed by means of a "physical fitness" program. As such, we sometimes take for granted the spiritual and motivational side of the coin - our mental wellness if you like.

Although not directly targeted by physical exercise, mental health is certainly a beneficial by-product of physical exercise, contributing to all-round fitness. Besides the obvious benefits of sensible weight loss programs, or when you gain muscle mass, one shouldn’t forget about the many not-so-visible positive effects of exercise.

Listed below are just some of the advantages of exercising taken from a rather long list of health conditions, which can be achieved through regular exercise and healthy eating:

  • Reduced risk of cancer, diabetes, stroke and heart disease;
  • Boosted natural defence against colds and flu viruses;
  • Improved self-esteem by alleviating depression;
  • Prevention of certain physical and cognitive problems associated with aging.

AND THE MESSAGE GOES UNHEARD

"So why would anyone still need convincing after reading this," I hear you asking? Well, sadly, many of us (actually far too many) choose to ignore the importance of exercise and the advantages of health and physical fitness - and so the level of obesity among our population continues to rise. Take a look at the flip-side of the coin – it’s synonymous with a whole host of chronic conditions brought about physical inactivity and unhealthy eating.

IGNORANT ABOUT HEALTH

NOBODY IS EXEMPT FROM THE BENEFITS OF EXERCISE

Remember that regardless of age, gender or physical ability, EVERYONE stands to gain from exercise. From preventing chronic health problems to allowing one to lose weight forever, not to mention promoting better sleep patterns and elevating one’s sense of pride - the benefits of exercise cannot afford to be overlooked.
Make time for workout routines
TIME IS NOT TO BE WASTED

There's no ideal point-in-time to begin working out. It's now! You've got little to lose and a lot to gain. Like so many people, you may say that you don’t have the time. Well, keep in mind that nobody has enough time, not even the top professional bodybuilders.

But, there are ways to work with your lack of time - try hard enough and MAKE the time. You can, and you owe it to yourself. Again, don't lose sight of those important benefits of exercise. Once you get underway, it won't be long and you’ll wonder why you hadn’t started sooner.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, A LITTLE SURPRISE

Here's something to smile about, and I know what I am talking about - I experienced this first-hand: as soon as you embark on an exercise program in a committed way, a strong sense of routine will take hold within you. You won't even notice it happening. (This and more is covered in my Sensible Physical Fitness Program.)

Strange as it may seem to you now, you'll start making excuses for your workout program and new lifestyle as they become commonplace in every bit of your fiber, and as you welcome them into your life. Talk about upsetting your priorities. You'll know what I'm talking about when you get there.
